Black: definition

Black is the symbolic colour tied to opacity, mystery, depth, the unknown, the end and the hidden. It is not only negative: it condenses all that does not let itself be seen at once.

It can mean depth, secret, psychic night, withdrawal, symbolic death or threshold. It is the colour of what is gestating in the shadow, before coming to light or transforming.

In a rigorous reading it must be handled with nuance and not reduced to a merely dramatic interpretation. Black frightens at first sight, but it often speaks of interiority and of what has no form yet.
