Visconti-Sforza Tarot

A set of ancient Renaissance Italian tarot decks, often considered among the most precious historical testimonies of the earliest tarots.

The so-called Visconti-Sforza tarots are associated with the great Milanese families of the 15th century, notably the Visconti and the Sforza. They occupy a major place in the history of early tarot.

These decks do not yet correspond exactly to the Tarot de Marseille in its later form, but they make it possible to understand the noble, cultural, and iconographic origins of European tarot.

From an encyclopedic perspective, the Visconti-Sforza Tarot is essential for situating tarot in its historical development, well before modern esoteric readings.
