Tarot de Marseille Type II

An iconographic category designating the more stabilized forms of the Tarot de Marseille, widely diffused from the 18th century onward.

Tarot de Marseille Type II corresponds to an evolution of older iconographic models. The decks of Nicolas Conver or Claude Burdel are often associated with this family.

In these decks, the iconography appears more stabilized and more homogeneous, which explains why these models served as the basis for many modern reissues.

Type II deeply influenced the contemporary image of the Tarot de Marseille, since most current editions derive directly or indirectly from these 18th-century models.
