Hermeticism

A set of esoteric and philosophical traditions claiming descent from Hermes Trismegistus, which influenced certain symbolic readings of tarot.

Hermeticism played a major role in several modern rereadings of tarot, notably through the occultist currents that sought to connect the arcana to a hidden, initiatory, or cosmological wisdom.

This influence is not part of the historical origin of tarot as a game, but it deeply marked its modern reception in European esoteric circles.

In an encyclopedic glossary, Hermeticism should be presented as an important interpretive framework for certain tarot traditions, without confusing it with the primary history of the Tarot de Marseille.
