House I: definition

House I is the house of identity, of stance and of the way one enters the world. It is the starting point from which the person presents themselves and acts.

It speaks of personal impulse, of the style of presence, of the relationship with initiative and of the way the subject places themselves before reality and before others.

It describes not so much what the person has or does as how they are and how they appear: their own energy, their way of beginning things, their personal stamp.

It usually constitutes the starting point of the reading in the twelve-house spread: it sets the general tone, the attitude with which the person approaches the period studied.

The cards that fall here qualify self-affirmation: with confidence and drive, or with doubts, withdrawal or difficulty in taking initiative and occupying one's own place.

Its axis with House VII, that of relationship and the other, is revealing: it opposes the I and the you, personal affirmation and the encounter with others.

When the spread accentuates House I, self-affirmation is usually at play: it is worth seeing whether the person dares to occupy their place and take initiative, or whether they hesitate and withdraw before the reality in front of them.

House I, in short, asks how a person shows up: the energy, posture and initiative with which they meet the world and begin whatever they undertake.
